Somehow, I’ve spent eight years chasing cars, stories and good light along this stretch of the Pacific.

Three anniversaries. One familiar fairway, and more than a few reasons to keep coming back.

Dear Drivers, Dreamers, and Dawn Patrollers,

Issue 05 celebrates three anniversaries.

This year, Pebble Beach celebrated its 75th year, this was my eighth year photographing and covering the Concours, and a year ago, we launched Revs & Redlines with Pebble Beach on the cover. Five issues later, we find ourselves back on the 18th fairway.

Our feature, “75 Years on the 18th Fairway,” traces Pebble’s unlikely evolution from a car race through Del Monte Forest to arguably the most important celebration of the automobile in the world.

Pebble is never just about Sunday. Lifestyle & Culture looks beyond the ropes. Japan finally gets its own Motorsport class; auction rooms prove eight figures can be a spirited bidding session; 17-Mile Drive turns traffic into a rolling concours; and the Concept Lawn gives the future a place to park. Ferrari takes over the First Fairway and produces a $40 million electric exclamation point. Dawn Patrol finds otherwise rational adults standing in the fog before sunrise waiting for Duesenbergs.

I remain one of them. After eight years, I’ve also learned to look beyond the cars. Pebble is the collectors, designers, restorers, mechanics, photographers and characters surrounding them. Including, this year, a parrot named Claude.

That’s also why Revs & Redlines exists. The cars get our attention. The people, places and stories are what keep it.
